Be Careful With Cosmetic Contact Lenses Bought Online
Woman Suffers Eye Injury from Online Contact Lenses
A woman in her 60s from Haifa was hospitalized with severe chemical burns to her eyes after wearing colored contact lenses purchased online.
Doctors at Bnei Zion Medical Center found that the lenses caused significant damage, including corneal erosion and a serious chemical infection. Dr. Jawad Masalha warned that using non-sterile, unapproved lenses can lead to severe injuries, even vision loss in extreme cases.
The woman received intensive treatment, including vitamin C injections, antibiotics, and therapeutic lenses. After several days, she was discharged with strict instructions to avoid cosmetic lenses.
Prof. Nitza Cohen Goldenberg, head of the hospital’s Ophthalmology Department, urged the public to only buy contact lenses from certified suppliers to prevent serious eye damage.
